Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced the dissolution of all statutory and non-statutory boards and commissions in the state.
The decision, which took immediate effect, was made public in Uyo on Thursday through a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Enobong Uwah. He explained that the governor acted in line with the powers granted under Section 6 of the Statutory Boards (Special Provisions) Law, 2023.
According to Uwah, Governor Eno extended his best wishes to members of the dissolved boards and commended them for their contributions, particularly in advancing the administration’s ARISE agenda. He added that chairpersons of the affected agencies have been directed to hand over government property in their possession to the most senior officers within their establishments.
The governor had earlier given a hint of this decision during a press briefing to mark Akwa Ibom’s 37th anniversary in 2024. At the time, he noted that the dissolution of the state executive council, along with boards and commissions, was part of the broader restructuring process and should not come as a surprise.
Governor Eno praised the commissioners, board members, and appointees for their service, acknowledging the time and energy they dedicated to the state’s growth and development.
