Former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has paid a permanent tribute to two close friends who tragically died in a car accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway last December.
Joshua tattooed the names of Sina Ghami and Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele on his body, memorializing the men who were not only part of his inner circle but also played pivotal roles in his training. Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach, and Ayodele, one of his trainers, lost their lives when the vehicle they were traveling in collided with a truck in Ogun State. Joshua, who was also in the car, survived the crash and was hospitalized before returning to the United Kingdom.
The London-based Fulham Tattoo Studio shared images of Joshua’s new tattoos on Instagram, revealing that the boxing star had walked in unannounced for his first session at the shop. Their post read: “Huge thank you to two-time heavyweight champion of the world Anthony Joshua for unexpectedly and unannounced walking through the door a few weeks ago for his first visit with us at Fulham Tattoo London … what a walk in.”
Joshua had previously attended the funerals of Ghami and Ayodele, visibly mourning the loss of his friends and mentors. With this tattoo, he has found a deeply personal way to honor their memory, keeping their names close as he continues his journey in and out of the ring.
