The Progressive Governors Forum has moved swiftly to dismantle a wave of online rumors suggesting a leadership change within its ranks. Contrary to the speculation flooding social media, Governor Hope Uzodinma remains the firmly established chairman of the forum, with the group confirming that the alleged “emergency meeting” in Abuja simply never happened.
The confusion appears to have been sparked by a viral narrative claiming that roughly twenty governors had gathered in the capital to oust Uzodinma. This misinformation gained traction following reports that Vice President Kashim Shettima had submitted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s candidacy paperwork for the 2027 elections. The timing of the rumor seemed calculated to exploit the heightened political atmosphere surrounding the APC primaries, but the forum’s clarification on May 7, 2026, has effectively put those whispers to rest.
Zoyols News reached out to verify the details and found that the claims were riddled with inconsistencies. For instance, the viral posts suggested that several non-APC governors participated in the supposed meeting—an assertion that defies the basic structure of the Progressive Governors Forum, which is comprised exclusively of the 19 APC state governors. Despite the partisan debates and digital friction the news caused, no credible platforms or official channels validated the story before it was debunked.
The leadership of the forum has reiterated that there is no internal plot against the Imo State Governor. By setting the record straight, the PGF aims to shift the focus back to party stability and the official electoral calendar, urging the public to be wary of unverified political scripts designed to create unnecessary tension.
