The All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken an early lead in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, securing victory in three out of the four councils declared so far. According to the latest updates monitored, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has managed to claim one seat, while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues to process the final results for the remaining two local government areas.

In a decisive win for the ruling party, Christopher Maikalangu of the APC emerged as the chairman-elect for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC). He dominated the polls with a total of 40,295 votes, leaving the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate in second place with 12,109 votes. Interestingly, the PDP candidate trailed significantly in this specific race, finishing third with 3,398 votes.

The APC’s winning streak extended to the Bwari Area Council, where their candidate, Joshua Ishaku, successfully clinched the chairmanship. Ishaku gathered 18,466 votes to defeat his closest rival from the ADC, who polled 4,254 votes. The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) also made an appearance on the scoreboard here, finishing in third place with 3,515 votes.

Kwali Area Council also flipped in favor of the APC, as Daniel Nuhu secured 17,032 votes. He defeated the PDP’s Haruna Pai, who earned 8,575 votes in a contest that saw a clear margin between the top two contenders.

However, the PDP found its footing in Gwagwalada, where Mohammed Kasim led a successful campaign to claim the chairmanship. Kasim polled 22,165 votes to overcome the APC’s Yahaya Shehu, who followed with 17,788 votes. The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, Biko Umar, rounded out the top three in that council with 1,687 votes.

As it stands, all eyes are now on the collation centers for the final two Area Councils. INEC is expected to officially announce those results shortly as the final figures are verified and documented.
