Atlético Name Striking N79b Price Tag for Lookman

Zoyols News

Atletico Madrid appears ready to cut ties with Ademola Lookman just months after bringing him to the Metropolitano, setting a hefty €50 million price tag on the Nigerian international. The Spanish giants are willing to listen to offers for the forward, a valuation that translates to roughly N79 billion. The news comes as a surprise given the massive expectations that accompanied his high-profile transfer from Atalanta.

Lookman moved to Spain on the heels of an extraordinary run in Italy, where his explosive pace and clinical finishing made him one of Serie A’s most feared attackers. His standout performances even earned him the prestigious African Footballer of the Year award. Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone initially viewed the versatile forward as the perfect weapon to inject creativity, speed, and depth into his frontline.

The reality on the pitch, however, has not quite matched the pre-season optimism. Adapting to life in Madrid has proven incredibly difficult for Lookman, primarily due to Simeone’s notoriously grueling tactical demands. The Argentine tactician is famous for requiring absolute defensive discipline and a relentless work rate from his attackers when out of possession. It is precisely these rigid tactical expectations that Lookman has struggled to meet, creating a disconnect between the player’s natural instincts and his manager’s philosophy.

Despite the friction, Lookman’s raw output remains respectable. During the second half of last season, he managed to register thirteen goal involvements, finding the net nine times and providing four assists in twenty-four appearances across all competitions. Those numbers prove his quality, but they haven’t been enough to cement his place as an indispensable part of the squad.

As rumors about his future continue to swirl in the media, Lookman has also taken a step back from his international duties. The Super Eagles attacker opted out of Nigeria’s recent squad selections for the June international friendlies against Poland and Portugal. With the transfer window heating up, this temporary hiatus from the national team suggests the forward may be focusing entirely on sorting out his club career before the new season begins.
