Transcorp Hotels Plc, the hospitality arm of Transnational Corporation Plc, has appointed Dr. (Mrs.) Awele Vivien Elumelu as Chair of the company, effective January 1, 2026. Her appointment follows the retirement of the outgoing Chair, Mr. Emmanuel N. Nnorom.
Dr. Elumelu brings a wealth of leadership experience spanning healthcare, insurance, corporate governance, and philanthropy. She currently serves as Chair of Avon Healthcare Limited, Nigeria’s leading health insurance provider, and Avon Medical Practice, a growing network of hospitals and clinics. She also chairs Heirs Insurance Brokers and is a founding Director of Heirs Holdings Limited.
A trained medical doctor with an MBBS from the University of Benin, Dr. Elumelu has clinical experience in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom. Her medical expertise is complemented by executive education from world-renowned institutions, including Harvard Business School, IMD Switzerland, and the London School of Economics.
Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Elumelu is deeply committed to social impact. As Trustee and Co-Founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, she has been instrumental in empowering over 24,000 young African entrepreneurs, providing them with seed capital, training, and mentorship. Her efforts have also championed gender inclusion, supporting women in business across the continent.
