The 2nd Atanda Musa U-15 National Table Tennis Championship has officially crowned its new champions. The two-day tournament, hosted at the Lagos Country Club in Ikeja, Lagos, saw some of the country’s most promising young talents battle it out for top honors.
In a thrilling finale that kept fans on the edge of their seats, Umar Ayoola went head-to-head with his younger brother, Usman Ayoola, in the boys’ singles final. The brothers, who had previously faced off at the Efunkoya Cup, delivered an explosive five-set match. Despite taking an early lead, the younger Ayoola couldn’t hold off his brother’s impressive performance. Umar ultimately secured the championship with a 3-1 victory, cementing his place as the tournament’s champion.
On the girls’ side, the final was a high-stakes rematch between Khadijat Musa and Chinenye Okafor, a repeat of their 2025 Efunkoya Cup clash. Hailing from Osun State, Musa once again showed her dominance, narrowly defeating Okafor from Abia with a final score of 3-2.
The competition was sponsored by table tennis legend Atanda Musa, in collaboration with the Lagos State Table Tennis Association and the Lagos Country Club. Musa expressed his passion for giving back to the sport that made him a household name, stating that the competition is a platform to discover new talent for the country.
The grand finale was attended by top officials from the Lagos Country Club and celebrated table tennis figures like Kasali Lasisi. Atanda Musa reaffirmed his commitment to the championship, promising to make it a permanent fixture on the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) calendar. “I am excited about the quality of talents we’ve seen, and we will keep improving the competition,” he said, adding that he intends to host the tournament annually to give more young players a chance to break into the national spotlight.
