The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested one Innocent Chukwuma in Oyigbo, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for allegedly urging the military to stage a coup through his social media account.
Chukwuma, who operates under the handle @TheAgroman on X (formerly Twitter), had posted messages calling for the overthrow of the Nigerian government. In his post, he declared that Nigeria needed a coup, urging the military to “suspend the government” and “join the AES.” He further claimed that only the armed forces could “save the country,” alleging that the leadership in Aso Rock had “sold the nation to the West.”
Security sources told reporter that Chukwuma was tracked and arrested following intelligence reports that linked him to inciting messages capable of undermining national security. The source added that the suspect is currently cooperating with investigators.
Authorities have cautioned the public against making or sharing statements that could be interpreted as threats to national stability, stressing that such remarks, even if made jokingly or “for social media attention,” would not be taken lightly by security agencies.
