Edo Assembly Summons Natasha Osawaru Over 2Baba ‘Fight’ Video

The Edo State House of Assembly has taken swift action regarding a viral video showing a heated public altercation involving one of its members, Natasha Irobosa Osawaru, and her husband, the renowned Nigerian music star Innocent Ujah Idibia (2Baba). On Tuesday, the Assembly ordered the lawmaker, who represents Egor Constituency, to appear before its Ethics and Privileges Committee within one week.

The legislative body’s leadership contends that the lawmaker’s conduct, which has been widely publicized, has brought the entire Assembly into public disrepute. Speaker Blessing Agbebaku expressed deep concern over the incident during Tuesday’s plenary session, describing it as an “embarrassing” situation for the legislature.

“For the past one week, she has been, let me use the word, trending negatively, both on electronic media and social media platforms. Television such as TVC, Silverbird, and other television stations,” the Speaker informed the members.

Agbebaku lamented that the widespread attention drawn to the Assembly by the incident was unbecoming of a lawmaker and warned that the matter could not be allowed to erode the institution’s reputation.

“Distinguished Members, of recent, this Honourable House, with cerebral and highly educated members, have been dragged to the mud for too long by our colleague, Honourable Natasha Irobosa Osawaru,” he asserted.

The core of the issue stems from a video that circulated rapidly across social media platforms, capturing the row that prompted the Assembly’s action. The footage, reportedly filmed inside a shop in London, shows Natasha confronting her husband while repeatedly raising her voice. Her widely shared words from the clip include the confrontational line: “Don’t do it. Don’t fucking do it! Na everyday you go dey shout for me? Wetin dey happen? Why are you raising your voice at me?” The circulation of this clip across platforms and its subsequent pick-up by national television stations were specifically cited by the Speaker as a major reason for the summons.

The Speaker’s directive mandates that Natasha appear before the Ethics and Privileges Committee within one week to explain her conduct and address the House leadership’s concern that she is “dragging the name of the House in the mud.”

The Committee has been granted a two-week window to fully investigate the matter and submit its findings and recommendations to the full Assembly. This suggests a formal inquiry that will examine whether the lawmaker’s highly publicized private conduct constitutes a breach of the Assembly’s established code of conduct or otherwise warrants official sanction.

Throughout his remarks, Speaker Agbebaku emphasized that the action was necessary to protect the institution’s standing, repeatedly characterizing the Assembly as a “decent and reputable House” populated by “cerebral and highly educated” members. He framed the summons as a crucial disciplinary step aimed at preserving that reputation rather than a personal attack, concluding: “So the attitude or the misconduct of a member cannot drag the House to disrepute.”
