Edun takes over as new G24 chairman

ZoyolsBlog

Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has officially assumed leadership of the G24, setting a clear agenda focused on “Optimising Resource Development for Inclusive, Job-Rich Economic Transformation.”

In a statement obtained by Zoyols Blog, Edun explained that his vision for the G24 would centre on harnessing all critical forms of resources human, financial, physical, and natural to drive sustainable and equitable economic growth.

He said the group under his leadership would promote active dialogue and concrete actions to remove structural barriers that limit resource mobilization across member nations. “Our goal is to unlock new pathways for inclusive growth, building on the solid foundation established by Argentina’s leadership,” he noted.

Edun drew attention to the widening global financial imbalance, revealing that achieving the Sustainable Development Goals would require between four and five trillion dollars annually in new financing. He warned that the world’s growing youth population posed both an immense challenge and a rare opportunity, with 1.2 billion young people expected to enter the labour market within the next 10 to 15 years, competing for just 400 million jobs.

He urged member nations to stabilize their economies, diversify growth drivers, and strengthen private-sector participation to create more opportunities for young people to thrive and contribute meaningfully to global development.

With Edun now at the helm, expectations are high that the G24 will take bold steps toward reshaping economic cooperation among developing nations and championing policies that promote inclusive prosperity.
