The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ola Olukoyede, is set to headline the WorldStage Economic Summit (WES) 2025 this Friday, November 21. The high-profile event will take place at the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) in Lagos.

Mr. Olukoyede is scheduled to deliver a key address titled: “Anti-Corruption Efforts of the EFCC to Boost Ease of Doing Business.” He will utilize the platform to highlight the Commission’s track record of major recoveries and impressive conviction rates achieved since he assumed leadership.

Unprecedented Results in the War Against Graft

The EFCC Chairman’s presentation will underscore the tangible results achieved in the fight against economic and financial crimes between October 2023 and September 2025. A two-year report covering this period reveals unprecedented achievements for the Commission, demonstrating a renewed commitment to tracing, confiscating, and returning illicit assets to the Nigerian state and the victims of fraud.

Key figures from the EFCC’s report include:

  • Total Naira Recovered: Over ₦566 billion

  • Total Convictions Secured: 7,503

  • Cases Filed in Court: 10,525

  • Foreign Currency Recovered: Over $411 million

  • Non-Monetary Assets Recovered: 1,502 properties

These figures strongly underscore the EFCC’s aggressive approach to tackling corruption, which is vital for improving Nigeria’s business environment.

Tackling Low Productivity

The WES 2025 summit itself is themed, “Tackling the Issue of Low Productivity in Nigeria.” The event is designed to diagnose the nation’s chronic economic challenges and propose actionable, evidence based solutions aimed at significantly improving national output and overall living standards.

Mr Segun Adeleye, President and CEO of World Stage Limited, highlighted the urgency of the theme, noting that low productivity remains a significant obstacle. He pointed out that while many Nigerians are working, a large portion still lives below the poverty line because “the right jobs are not available.”

The summit agenda is comprehensive and will tackle several critical areas: strategies for generating jobs that genuinely lift people out of poverty; legislative interventions necessary to curb the annual economic loss due to corruption; strategies to boost earnings in low-productivity sectors; and key reforms to accelerate domestic resource mobilization and tax administration.
