FCT Police Debunk Lt. Yerima’s Assassination Claim

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has swiftly moved to clarify the incident that led to an alleged assassination claim by one Lt. Ahmed Yerima, who reportedly claimed he was trailed by unidentified persons in two unmarked Hilux vans in the Kubwa area on Sunday evening.

In a press statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Josephine Adeh, dismissed the online publications, specifically citing an Instagram blog, ‘Mazitundeednut,’ as being “false and grossly misleading.”

The PPRO offered a clear account of the events that transpired:

“On November 16, 2025, at about 06:15 p.m., a Police patrol team, while conducting a routine stop and search operation at NNPC Junction along Kubwa Expressway, intercepted an ash coloured Toyota Camry driven with a concealed number plate and fully tinted windows,” the statement detailed.

“In line with standard operational procedure, officers approached the vehicle and politely requested for the occupant’s identity, along with an explanation for the concealments.”

However, the situation took a non-confrontational but uncooperative turn. The occupant—later identified as Lt. Yerima—reportedly refused to identify himself, proceeded to make several phone calls, and rolled up his tinted windows, declining to engage with the police team.

The incident was diffused minutes later when three naval personnel arrived at the location. They “cordially identified the occupant of the vehicle as their colleague.” These personnel were observed taking video and picture footage of the encounter before leaving the scene.

“Following this confirmation, the Police team allowed the vehicle to proceed. The patrol team then continued its operations peacefully and without any further incident. It is however surprising to wake up to maliciously crafted tales and worst of all allegations of assassination,” the PPRO noted, expressing surprise at the media frenzy.

The Commissioner of Police in charge of the FCT Command, CP Miller Dantawaye, used the opportunity to urge FCT residents and visitors to always cooperate with police officers in the discharge of their lawful duties. He stressed the paramount need to shun the peddling of fake and unverified news, which is capable of creating unwarranted fear and apprehension within the society.
