Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has launched the distribution of 408,137 teaching and learning materials to public schools across the state, in a move aimed at revitalising the education sector.

The official flag-off ceremony took place at the Teacher Training and Development Centre (TTDC), Bypass Road, Gusau. Speaking through his spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the governor described the initiative as part of his administration’s broader vision to place Zamfara on the path of recovery, renewal, and progress through education.

Governor Lawal stressed that his administration came into office with a clear mandate to rescue and rebuild the state, adding that education remains central to that mission. “From the very beginning, we recognised that the surest way to restore Zamfara is by investing in the minds of our people. This distribution of 408,137 teaching and learning materials is one of the largest single investments in instructional resources our state has ever seen,” he said.

The governor explained that while the state government funded the bulk of the materials, other partners also made significant contributions. The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) provided 77,609 additional teaching aids, while UNICEF supported the state with 5,000 Climate Change and Education Early Warning Handbooks.

“These interventions, from the state government, UBEC, and UNICEF, together tell a powerful story—that Zamfara has chosen knowledge as the foundation for rebuilding,” Lawal noted.

The governor also praised the commitment of teachers in Zamfara, acknowledging their sacrifices despite challenges. “No investment in books or resources can replace the dedication of a teacher who inspires students daily,” he said, urging teachers to make effective use of the new materials.

He further appealed to parents and guardians to play an active role in their children’s education, reminding them that learning begins at home. “A book alone is not enough without encouragement. Education starts with discipline and guidance at home, and I urge you to ensure your children attend school regularly and remain committed to their studies,” he added.

The distribution exercise marks a significant step in Governor Lawal’s efforts to strengthen Zamfara’s educational system and prepare young learners for a brighter future.
