Governor Dauda Lawal has reiterated his administration’s dedication to enhancing police operations across Zamfara State. He made the commitment during a courtesy visit by the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Mohammed F. Sheidu, at the Government House in Gusau.

The visit provided an opportunity for the NPTF team to inspect the newly constructed special forces barracks funded by the trust. Speaking through his spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the governor emphasized that his administration remains fully committed to collaborating on programmes that improve both the welfare and efficiency of police personnel in the state.

Governor Lawal highlighted ongoing initiatives aimed at improving police facilities, including the renovation of the Zamfara Police Headquarters and the construction of additional structures at the Zamfara Mobile Command. He stressed that the administration’s efforts are part of a broader strategy to ensure officers have the resources and conditions necessary to perform effectively.

He said, “My administration is making a conscious effort to ensure the welfare of the police is guaranteed. That is why we are renovating the Zamfara police headquarters and constructing additional facilities at the Mobile Command. We have made progress, and we are determined to do more.”

Reflecting on the challenges faced by police personnel, the governor noted the poor state of existing barracks and infrastructure. He drew from his experience as a member of the Presidential Committee on Police Reform, describing inspections of police colleges and facilities in Kaduna, Plateau, and Borno. He stressed the urgent need for a complete overhaul of police welfare to enable officers to perform their duties effectively.

Governor Lawal also announced plans to resolve land-related challenges for police housing projects. He confirmed that his administration would immediately allocate suitable land to the Police Trust Fund to advance the construction of a new police housing estate.

In response, NPTF Executive Secretary Mohammed F. Sheidu commended Governor Lawal for his proactive support and collaboration, highlighting the positive impact of the state’s initiatives on the welfare and infrastructure of the police in Zamfara.
