The Nasarawa State Government has approved the release of five billion naira for the payment of long-overdue gratuities owed to retirees across the state.
Speaking during a press briefing in Lafia, the State Accountant General, Dr. Musa Ahmed Mohammed, confirmed that one and a half billion naira has already been released to the State Pensions Bureau for the immediate payment of gratuities to civil servants who retired in 2012.
He explained that the remaining three billion naira will go toward clearing the backlog of benefits and other entitlements owed to retirees at the local government level.
Dr. Mohammed noted that Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration remains deeply committed to the welfare and dignity of senior citizens who dedicated their service to the growth and progress of the state. He emphasized that the government’s gesture reflects its recognition of their invaluable contributions to Nasarawa’s development.
He added that preparations for disbursement are in top gear and urged all beneficiaries to remain patient and cooperate with the relevant government agencies to ensure a transparent and hitch-free payment process.
The Accountant General assured that under Governor Sule’s leadership, the state will continue to uphold fairness and accountability in addressing workers’ and retirees’ concerns.
