Nollywood actor Kunle Afod has intensified his advocacy for better governance, turning his attention to the leadership of Ose Local Government in Osun State. In a heartfelt video shared on his social media, the actor lamented the deteriorating state of the area, questioning how much longer the people would have to endure such harsh living conditions.
Afod painted a grim picture of the local infrastructure, noting that the challenges are multifaceted. He highlighted that children in the community are forced to learn in dilapidated environments, while local hospitals remain shadows of themselves due to a lack of basic medical equipment. The actor also pointed out that the roads have become almost impassable and that the power supply in the region has remained consistently poor.
In a direct appeal, he called on specific leaders, including Clement Kolapo Ojo, Olatunji Emmanuel Oshati, Adelegbe Oluwatimehin Emmanuel, and Ipinsagba Emmanuel Olajide, as well as Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa. Afod urged these officials to listen to the cries of their constituents and provide the urgent attention that Ose Local Government desperately needs.
This is not the first time the actor has used his platform to demand accountability. He previously drew attention to the state of roads in Osun, even tagging prominent figures like Sola Sobowale and Yemi Alade to amplify the message. He specifically warned that the broken infrastructure has become a breeding ground for insecurity, as kidnappers often take advantage of the bad spots to target motorists.
The outcry for better roads and public safety is a recurring theme among Nigerian celebrities. Comedian Ayo Makun recently voiced similar concerns following a tragic accident involving a relative of boxer Anthony Joshua. He criticized the government for what he described as taking human life for granted, calling for safer roads, better emergency response systems, and a genuine commitment to the sanctity of life.
While some are calling out neglect, others have seen progress. Filmmaker Kunle Afolayan recently commended the government for fulfilling a promise to reconstruct the road leading to his film village, noting that such infrastructure serves as a vital corridor for creatives, farmers, and the local economy.
Contrastingly, the outspoken singer Portable made headlines in 2024 after a near-fatal accident in a ditch in Sango-Ota. He initially slammed the Ogun State government for the state of the roads, though he later visited a major road project and praised the ongoing work after receiving assurances that the infrastructure issues were being addressed. For Kunle Afod and the people of Ose, the hope remains that their leaders will match these examples of responsiveness and bring much-needed relief to their community.
