The Nigeria Immigration Service has moved swiftly to address allegations of extortion along the Lagos Seme border, launching an investigation into claims that have gained attention online. The reports, which point to misconduct by personnel operating in the area, have prompted immediate action from the agency’s leadership.
In response, Comptroller General Kemi Nandap directed the suspension of the comptrollers in charge of the affected commands, a step aimed at ensuring a fair and transparent probe. The decision signals the seriousness with which the service is treating the matter.
A statement issued by the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, made it clear that the actions described in the reports do not reflect the standards of the agency. The leadership strongly condemned any form of misconduct, stressing that such behaviour goes against the core values and operational principles of the service.
Authorities have ordered a detailed investigation to track down all officers linked to the allegations. Those found responsible are expected to face immediate disciplinary measures, as the service seeks to restore confidence and accountability.
Reports gathered that the Nigeria Immigration Service remains committed to delivering efficient and professional services at all entry and exit points. It emphasized that any action capable of damaging public trust or the institution’s reputation will not be tolerated.
The agency has also called on members of the public to report any form of misconduct through its round the clock contact channels and official social media platforms. According to officials, ongoing internal reforms are being strengthened to ensure discipline and uphold transparency across all its operations.
The development underscores the service’s broader goal of promoting lawful migration while maintaining high standards of professionalism throughout its ranks.
