Israel’s defense minister issued a striking warning on Thursday, promising to unleash the “biblical” 10 plagues of Egypt on Yemen’s Huthi rebels following a new wave of missile attacks.
“The Huthis are firing missiles at Israel again. A plague of darkness, a plague of the firstborn — we will complete all 10 plagues,” Israel Katz wrote on X, referencing the disasters described in the Book of Exodus, which were said to have struck Egypt to compel the Pharaoh to release the enslaved Israelites.
The warning came as the Israeli military reported that a missile launched from Yemen struck outside Israeli territory earlier in the day, following the interception of two other Huthi missiles.
The Iran-backed Huthi rebels have vowed to intensify their attacks on Israel after an air strike last week killed their prime minister and 11 senior officials. Since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023, the Huthis have repeatedly launched drones and missiles at Israel, framing their strikes as support for the Palestinians.
In response, Israel has conducted multiple retaliatory operations in Yemen, targeting ports and the rebel-controlled capital, Sanaa, in an effort to weaken the Huthi’s capabilities.
