The Kano State Government has clarified reports suggesting that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s recent directive brought public administration in the state to a halt.
In a statement on Friday, the Press Secretary to the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Tanko Muhammad, explained that the directive was a temporary, precautionary measure aligned with financial regulations and standard administrative procedures.
“The directive, which briefly paused the forwarding of files to the governor’s office, was issued at the end of December when the 2024 budget had expired and the 2025 Appropriation Bill was still under consideration by the House of Assembly,” the statement said.
The government emphasized that this measure was intended to prevent unauthorized spending and ensure full compliance with public finance laws, noting that no new financial approvals can occur without an enacted appropriation law.
Essential services, including security, healthcare, education, and sanitation, have continued uninterrupted, demonstrating the state’s commitment to effective governance.
Describing claims of administrative paralysis as misleading, the statement reassured the public that the directive was a lawful step to promote fiscal discipline and accountability, and further guidance would follow once administrative reviews are concluded.
