Kebbi Violence: The Cases Against Malami and Koko

Zoyols Blog

The pervasive violence echoing through the streets of Birnin Kebbi has drawn national security’s unwavering focus. It is becoming tragically clear that political schemes in Nigeria aren’t just clashing with public safety; they are actively fueling a catastrophe of terrifying proportions. The spiraling insecurity in Kebbi State raises serious questions that move beyond mere governance failures, forcing a brutal re-examination of political power’s nature and its deadly synergy with banditry. The rise of these groups, terrorizing farmers and rural communities, is not an organic phenomenon—it is allegedly a planned operation.

A meticulous investigation into the activities of Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney General of the Federation, and Shehu Koko, a former lawmaker from the state, reveals a profoundly unsettling reality: these men have crucial cases to answer, and the stakes for the entire nation couldn’t be higher. The suffering in Kebbi is not simply the product of weak security architecture; it is the direct result of a political conspiracy where powerful figures are weaponizing banditry for their vested interests.

The Corrosive Ambition of Malami and Koko

The character profiles of these two figures highlight the danger. Nigerians will recall that Malami’s tenure as the nation’s Attorney General was a dark season marked by a continuous stream of legal and political controversies. His relationship with powerful political and economic forces often appeared to place a heavy burden on national growth and transparency. Therefore, the news of his alleged involvement in orchestrating instability in Kebbi is hardly surprising. It demands intense scrutiny to unmask the depth of his political desperation and expose him to a public who may have mistakenly believed he had changed.

Equally disturbing is the trajectory of Muhammed Shehu Koko, the former House of Representatives member for the Koko/Maiyama Federal Constituency. Koko was previously known to have a history of thuggery, allegedly hiring bandits to intimidate rivals even before he fully transitioned into politics. His defection from the APC to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with Malami, following their rejection by the Kebbi political mainstream, seems to have intensified their reliance on violence. Their move from disgruntled politicians to alleged sponsors of chaos is a stark illustration of how ambition and power can corrupt Nigerian politics to its core.

The $1 Million Plot to Destabilize Kebbi

Verified sources allege that Malami provided Koko with $1 million to bankroll terrorists and bandits. The explicit directive was to “resume work” in Kebbi by launching fear-inducing attacks aimed at discrediting the governance of the current administration.

However, the sordid pact quickly began to unravel. An ally involved in the conspiracy later revealed that Koko, driven by greed, allegedly pocketed the majority of the funds, releasing only a paltry $100,000 to the bandits with a promise of more once they began their operations. This betrayal led the ally to leak the details to authorities, thus exposing Koko’s nefarious plan.

To shield his partner and deflect scrutiny from the failed plot, Malami swiftly launched a desperate counter-campaign. On September 10, he filed a petition with the Inspector General of Police, the DSS, and the National Security Adviser, brazenly accusing Governor Idris of importing “foreign mercenaries” and arming terrorists.

Malami’s alleged master plan—to import and unleash criminal elements—is a calculated act of destruction. Its objective is to destabilize Kebbi, create widespread fear, and ultimately provide a stage for Malami to project himself as the savior. This chilling allegation suggests that the violence is not a political misstep but a deliberate, intentional act to serve personal interests at the direct cost of human lives. Malami’s alleged orchestration in this lethal political game jeopardizes the safety of the entire Nigerian state.

The Need for Immediate Accountability

The bitter desire for political control by the Malami-Koko duo seemingly overrides the sanctity of human life. Their strategy—engineering a crisis to weaken opponents and then presenting themselves as the solution—is a familiar, but utterly reprehensible, tactic. What makes the Kebbi situation so profoundly disturbing is the high profile of the individuals allegedly involved and the potential for the violence to spin totally out of control. An execution of this plot would risk raising another wave of uncontrolled bandits, confident in the backing of powerful political sponsors.

Nigeria’s repeated failure to address corruption and abuse of power at the highest levels has created a climate where the powerful operate with impunity, while the most vulnerable bear the full brunt of their destructive schemes. The existence of these credible claims, backed by public reports and alleged eyewitness testimony, speaks volumes about the porous nature of accountability at the top.

The fate of ordinary Nigerians has become a mere pawn in a brutal game played by the elite. As reported by Zoyols Blog, we are witnessing not just negligence, but the deliberate execution of violence for personal gain, and the people deserve answers immediately. The dynamics of this violence are not just criminal opportunism; they are being actively orchestrated by powerful figures.

The President and all patriotic Nigerians must recognize Kebbi’s suffering not as an isolated issue, but as a crisis that threatens the very foundation of the federation. Malami and Koko, by allegedly preparing this political violence, risk creating a new national catastrophe, much like the initial emergence of Boko Haram—a paid group that gained confidence and grew into an unstoppable force. Malami and Koko have cases to answer, not just for the plot of violence in Kebbi, but for the larger question of ethical governance and political responsibility in Nigeria. The Inspector General of Police, DSS, and other security agencies must immediately bring them in for questioning. Nigeria’s future cannot afford the gamble of impunity.
