The Super Eagles’ camp in Rabat, Morocco, is steadily filling up as preparations intensify for their critical 2026 FIFA World Cup Play-Off against Gabon this Thursday. The first official training session, overseen by Head Coach Eric Sekou Chelle and his technical staff, saw 14 players take to the pitch.
Among the early arrivals were reigning African Footballer of the Year, Ademola Lookman, and first-choice goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, whose presence brings immediate star power and stability to the team. The initial group also featured goalkeeper Amas Obasogie and Sevilla players Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke. The squad gained further reinforcement with the recent arrivals of Bright Osayi-Samuel and Raphael Onyedika. The technical crew anticipates a full complement of players, including star striker Victor Osimhen, for today’s training session.
Osimhen’s Full Concentration on National Duty
Meanwhile, Victor Osimhen has confirmed that his mind is now completely fixed on the national team assignment. The star forward recently experienced disappointment with his club, Galatasaray, following their 1-0 loss to Kocaelispor in the Turkish Super Lig on Sunday.
Despite the club setback, Osimhen’s commitment to Nigeria is unwavering. “I have to travel. The game has happened, it has happened. I have moved on from that. Now I focus on my national team,” Osimhen stated, confirming his determination to switch focus entirely to the playoffs. His goal-scoring prowess and leadership will be absolutely pivotal as the Super Eagles strive to advance to the final qualifying round for the World Cup.
Nigeria is set to face Gabon in the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoffs on Thursday, with kick-off scheduled for 5 p.m. Nigerian time.
