Atlético de Madrid have officially secured the signing of Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman from Atalanta, with the 28-year-old committing to a contract that runs until June 30, 2030.
The Red-and-White side confirmed the transfer on their official website, highlighting Lookman’s successful spell in Bergamo, where he emerged as one of Europe’s most influential attackers. “Atlético de Madrid and Atalanta have agreed on the transfer of Ademola Lookman, who has signed with us until June 30, 2030,” the club announced.
Lookman completed his medical at the Vithas-Invictum High-Performance Sports Medicine Centre at Arturo Soria University Hospital in Madrid before heading to the club offices at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. There, he signed his contract in the presence of CEO Miguel Ángel Gil, who personally welcomed him to the club.
Born in Wandsworth, London, on October 20, 1997, Lookman began his football journey in the youth systems of Waterloo FC and Charlton Athletic, making his senior debut for Charlton in November 2015. His career then spanned the Premier League and Bundesliga, featuring for Everton, RB Leipzig, Fulham, and Leicester City, before joining Atalanta in the summer of 2022.
At Atalanta, Lookman enjoyed the most productive period of his career, making 137 appearances, scoring 55 goals, and providing 27 assists. He was a key figure in the club’s historic 2023/24 UEFA Europa League triumph, scoring a sensational hat-trick in a 3–0 final victory over Bayer Leverkusen, handing the German side their only defeat of the season and clinching Atalanta’s first-ever continental trophy.
On the international stage, Lookman represented England at youth level, winning the 2017 FIFA Under-20 World Cup, before switching allegiance to Nigeria. Since his senior debut for the Super Eagles in March 2022, he has earned 41 caps and scored 11 goals, establishing himself as a key player for the national team.
Lookman now joins Atlético Madrid as they look to bolster their attacking options and make a strong impact in La Liga and European competitions.
