Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has firmly rejected overtures from the ruling All Progressives Congress, reaffirming her allegiance to the Peoples Democratic Party. The Senator representing Kogi Central revealed that both officials linked to the Presidency and some colleagues have repeatedly approached her with proposals to defect, but she remains steadfast in her commitment to the PDP.
Speaking on the Mic On Podcast with Seun Okinbaloye, the first-term senator recounted multiple attempts to woo her into the APC. “I have been approached many times. People from the Presidency, even my colleagues, have reached out to me. Yet, I value my space and my peace,” she said. Natasha emphasized that although she briefly joined the APC at the start of her political career, she chose to return to the PDP and has no intention of switching again.
Addressing speculation about her political future, Akpoti-Uduaghan explained that while discussions are ongoing regarding a potential second term in 2027, no final decision has been made. She noted that any move will be carefully considered in consultation with her family, constituents, and party leadership.
On the possibility of facing former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello in 2027, Natasha expressed confidence. Reflecting on her 2023 election victory over candidates backed by Bello, she declared, “If by any chance I make up my mind and end up on the ballot against former Governor Yahaya Bello, then I would say, bring it on.”
Since officially assuming office after a tribunal ruling in 2023, the senator has maintained strong loyalty to the PDP. She, however, hinted that her continued support may depend on the party’s ability to resolve internal leadership disputes ahead of the next general elections, leaving the door open for reconsideration only if the party fails to restore unity.
