The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has issued a weather forecast warning of dust haze and thunderstorms expected across different parts of the country from Monday through Wednesday. The agency urged the public to remain alert and take necessary safety precautions during this period.

In its latest weather outlook released in Abuja, NiMet noted that a light dust haze would affect areas including Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Borno, and parts of Kaduna on Monday. Other parts of the North are expected to experience sunny conditions, while isolated thunderstorms may occur in parts of southern Taraba later in the afternoon and evening.

The central region is predicted to witness mostly sunny skies with patches of clouds, although Benue and Kogi may experience isolated thunderstorms later in the day. Across the South, the atmosphere will generally remain cloudy, with light morning rains expected in some areas.

NiMet further projected late-morning thunderstorms over parts of Ogun, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Lagos, while moderate rainfall could spread into some southwestern and southeastern states by evening. Areas such as Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Ekiti, Osun, Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Delta are also expected to experience isolated thunderstorms and moderate rains as the day progresses.

For Tuesday, the agency forecast a sunny and hazy atmosphere over the northern region, with southern Taraba likely to record thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening hours. The central parts of the country, including Kogi, Benue, and Kwara, will experience sunny skies with patches of clouds, while the southern states will begin the day with cloudy weather. Thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall are expected later in the day across Ogun, Lagos, and Cross River, extending into other coastal and inland areas by evening.

By Wednesday, northern Nigeria is expected to remain mostly sunny, while the central region will see sunshine mixed with patches of clouds. Later in the afternoon, thunderstorms with light rain are predicted in parts of Kwara, Benue, and Kogi. NiMet advised residents in these areas to take extra precautions during adverse weather conditions.

In the South, morning clouds are expected over Cross River, Rivers, and Delta, followed by moderate thunderstorms later in the day across other coastal and inland states. Abia, Anambra, Imo, Ekiti, Osun, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Edo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom are among the states projected to experience afternoon or evening thunderstorms.

NiMet also advised motorists to exercise caution while driving, especially under reduced visibility caused by rain or haze. It warned that dust particles could linger over parts of the North, affecting both visibility and air quality. People with respiratory conditions such as asthma were urged to limit outdoor exposure during heavy haze and poor air conditions.

Airline operators were encouraged to obtain up-to-date weather reports and airport-specific forecasts from NiMet to ensure safe and efficient flight operations. The agency reiterated its commitment to keeping Nigerians informed through its official updates
