The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has called on the newly inaugurated leadership of the Women Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN) to become active champions of morality, peace, and wellness within their communities. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held in Onitsha, she emphasized that leadership positions within the church offer a unique platform to drive positive social change and strengthen the moral fabric of the state.
Mrs. Soludo, who was represented at the event by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Oluchi Ibezim, reminded the women that motherhood is a significant privilege. She noted that when mothers are empowered and focused, they possess the innate ability to transform households and, by extension, improve the wider society. The First Lady urged the new executive members to make the protection of women’s rights and the fight against gender-based violence a central part of their mission.
A major highlight of her message focused on her pet project, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo. She explained that the initiative is a movement designed for everyone, transcending religious or social boundaries to promote hygiene and healthy lifestyle choices. According to the First Lady, the crusade for a healthier society relies heavily on inclusive partnerships, and she sees the women of WOWICAN as vital partners in spreading this message of wellness to every corner of the state.
Since its establishment in 1990, WOWICAN has served as a unifying body for Christian women across various denominations in Nigeria. The organization has built a reputation for its commitment to humanitarian aid, financial empowerment, and education. By encouraging this new leadership team to prioritize interfaith harmony and family support, Mrs. Soludo noted that they are continuing a long legacy of service.
The charge serves as a timely reminder of the influence women hold in shaping public health and social stability. The First Lady expressed her confidence in the new administration, urging them to lead with integrity and to use their influence to foster a culture of discipline and peace that will benefit all residents of Anambra State.
