The Ogun State Government has officially handed over more than 130 hectares of land to the Federal Government for the construction of an inland dry port, a project aimed at boosting trade and easing the burden on Nigeria’s congested seaports.
The initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s plan to establish inland dry ports across the country to strengthen logistics, promote regional trade, and enhance the movement of goods between hinterland areas and coastal terminals.
With the land now secured, the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy is set to begin work on the proposed terminal in Ijebu-Ode, which will serve as a major hub for import and export activities in the Southwest.
During the formal handover ceremony, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Olufemi Oloruntola, who signed the documents on behalf of the Federal Government, reaffirmed the administration’s readiness to ensure that the project is completed without delay.
Representing Governor Dapo Abiodun, the State Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo, explained that the land donation underscores Ogun’s commitment to supporting national infrastructure that drives commerce and connectivity. He added that the project would not only enhance intermodal transportation within the state but also improve efficiency at the western ports by diverting cargo traffic inland.
Upon completion, the new facility will be known as the Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Port a landmark investment expected to transform Ogun State into a key player in Nigeria’s maritime and logistics landscape.
Zoyols Blog gathered that the project reflects a growing partnership between federal and state authorities to decentralize port operations and position more regions as active contributors to the nation’s trade network.
