Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to industrializing the state by pledging to breathe new life into all dormant state-owned industries. This commitment is part of a broader strategy to reposition Edo as a premier destination for trade, investment, and sustainable economic growth.
The Governor shared these plans during a pre-launch dinner for the 2026 Trade Fair, an event organized by the Benin Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (BENCCIMA). Represented by the Commissioner for Business, Trade and Investment, Omoh Anabor, the Governor noted that the move to resuscitate these moribund enterprises is not merely a goal but an initiative already in motion. He described the gathering as a strategic step toward turning the state into a vibrant hub for innovation.
Stakeholders at the event received assurances that the upcoming 2026 Trade Fair would set a new standard for excellence, with the government promising the best organized showcase in the state’s history. According to reports gathered by Zoyols News, the administration is focusing heavily on creating a world-class experience for local and international participants alike.
Emphasizing the importance of unity, BENCCIMA President, Engr. Omoregie Eki, noted that lasting economic prosperity requires a deliberate and sustained partnership between the public and private sectors. He called on the government to continue improving the business environment through infrastructure development, enhanced security, and policy stability. Eki further revealed that the landmark trade fair is scheduled to take place between November and December 2026.
Adding to the ambitious plans for the state’s economic future, Dr. Jonathan Oboite, the Director of Trade and Second Deputy Vice President of BENCCIMA, spoke on the proposed construction of a modern trade fair complex. This facility is intended to host commercial and social activities around the clock, aiming to change the narrative that business life in Benin City ends early in the evening.
Beyond the urban center, the initiative is designed to have a direct impact on the agricultural sector by providing farmers with better market access and reducing post-harvest losses. Dr. Oboite highlighted that the fair will serve as a bridge, connecting the untapped potential of local artisans and producers with global opportunities, ensuring that the wealth of talent within Edo State finally gains the international recognition it deserves.
