Governor Alex Otti has made it clear that security will continue to serve as the bedrock of his administration’s development agenda in Abia State. The Governor maintained that no matter how ambitious a government’s vision may be, sustainable growth cannot take root in an atmosphere of fear or instability.
Speaking on Wednesday at the Government House in Umuahia, Otti welcomed a delegation from the Alumni Association of the Nigeria Naval College’s Seventh Regular Course, led by Commodore A.O. Bamidele (Rtd). During the meeting, which was monitored by Reports, the Governor emphasized that security is the administration’s primary priority, noting that every other sector of the economy effectively collapses when the safety of lives and property is not guaranteed.
The Governor expressed his appreciation to the association for choosing Abia State as the host for their upcoming 40th anniversary reunion. He viewed the decision as a significant vote of confidence in the ongoing changes happening across the state. To ensure the success of the event, the Governor directed his Special Adviser on Security, Navy Commander MacDonald Ubah (Rtd), to coordinate closely with the group and provide all necessary support.
Addressing the praise received for his government’s early successes, Governor Otti noted that while the improvements are visible, the state is still in the early stages of its transformation. He assured the visitors that his team remains deeply committed to delivering even more for the residents of Abia. He also touched on his administration’s focus on merit, pointing out that Commander Ubah was appointed based purely on his track record and expertise in security architecture.
Earlier, Commodore Bamidele explained that the delegation visited to formally inform the Governor of their reunion and to seek his blessings. He shared his personal impressions of the state, remarking that Umuahia looked like a “new paradise” compared to previous years. He noted that the positive news regarding the rapid development in Aba and other parts of the state has gained national attention.
The retired Commodore thanked the Governor for recognizing the value of their colleague, Commander Ubah, through his appointment. He pledged the association’s continued support for the state’s security initiatives, highlighting that their members remain dedicated to contributing to national growth. The meeting was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Deputy Governor Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba.
