The Oyo State Government has approved fresh road and infrastructure projects worth more than N113 billion. The funding will come from the N300 billion loan earlier endorsed by the State House of Assembly.
Commissioner for Works and Public Transport, Arc. Mojeed Mogbonjubola, disclosed this to journalists shortly after the State Executive Council meeting held on Tuesday at the Governor’s Office, Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan. He explained that the projects cut across both new constructions and ongoing works in different parts of the state.
One of the major projects approved is the asphaltic reconstruction and rehabilitation of the 13.6km Ojoo Interchange–IITA–Moniya Junction–Akinyele Interchange, with spurs to the New Oyo Expressway, valued at N63.6 billion.
Other projects include the dualisation of the 6.2km Ajia Junction (Ibadan/Ife Interchange) to the Nigerian Air Force Base Road at a cost of N17.1 billion, as well as the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the 30km Okaka Junction–Otu Igbojaye–KAP Village Road. The latter also covers the construction of bridges over the Otu and Ofiki rivers, totaling N26.4 billion.
The Council also approved the expansion of the scope of work on the Apete–Awotan–Akufo Road (12km) alongside rigid pavement construction on the 2.2km Akufo Farm Settlement Road, estimated at N1.9 billion.
In Eruwa, the government gave approval for the asphaltic construction of Isaba–Ogundoyin Road (0.75km) and the Lanlate Garage Junction–Local Government Junction–Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic–Oke Ola Junction Road (1.9km), with a combined cost of N4.1 billion.
For Ibadan, the Council sanctioned the continuation of thermoplastic road marking, kerb painting, and minor repairs across selected roads in the metropolis through direct labour intervention, worth N444.7 million. The first phase covers areas from SDP–All Motors and Airport Road, along with adjoining routes.
In addition, N108 million was approved for the planting of economic trees along both sides of the 32km Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja Circular Road (Phase 1). Commissioner Mogbonjubola said the tree planting would add both environmental and economic value to the project.
He also confirmed that the Council approved N110 million for the camping and hosting of Nigeria’s Under-20 female national football team in Ibadan ahead of their Women’s World Cup qualifying clash against Rwanda.
Mogbonjubola assured residents that the approved projects would be delivered within 12 to 18 months, noting that they are designed to stimulate socio-economic growth and improve investment opportunities in Oyo State.
Supporting this, the Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Akin-Funmilayo Williams, announced that 35,000 tree seedlings have been provided for planting around the Tech-U Junction to Badeku stretch of the Ibadan Circular Road. According to him, this will not only beautify the highway but also enhance oxygen supply and environmental sustainability.
