PalmPay Targets Hong Kong IPO to Fuel Global Growth

Fintech firm PalmPay is reportedly making moves toward a potential initial public offering in Hong Kong. According to reports, the company is looking to raise approximately $200 million, targeting a valuation that would surpass the $1 billion mark. While plans are still in the early stages and specific timelines or banking partners remain unconfirmed, the move highlights the company’s push to fuel its international footprint and cement its status among the continent’s major players.

Since its launch in 2019, PalmPay has built a substantial presence, currently serving over 35 million registered users and roughly a million business customers. The platform provides a wide range of services, including money transfers, credit, insurance, and merchant payment solutions. Zoyols News understands that the company now operates across several key markets, including Nigeria, Tanzania, Ghana, South Africa, and Bangladesh.

The company’s growth strategy has been deeply bolstered by its origins. As a product of Transsion Holdings, the parent firm behind smartphone brands like Tecno, Infinix, and Itel, PalmPay gained a massive early advantage by coming preinstalled on millions of devices. This hardware-backed distribution model, supported by additional investors like NetEase and MediaTek, has been central to its rapid scaling across Africa and parts of Asia.

Nigeria remains the core of the business, housing what is arguably one of the country’s most extensive networks of agents and merchants. However, the landscape is becoming increasingly competitive. Rival firm OPay, which boasts a significantly larger user base and a recent valuation near $2 billion, is also reportedly considering a public listing.

A successful debut on the Hong Kong stock exchange would not only provide PalmPay with vital access to international capital but also signal a broader trend of investor interest in African financial technology. As digital services continue to reshape consumer behavior across the continent, this potential IPO marks another significant chapter for the industry.
