In a significant move that signals a potential return to normalcy for the South East, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced the official and permanent end of the long-standing Monday sit-at-home order. According to a statement released on Sunday and shared via Reports, the group’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, confirmed that the cancellation takes effect immediately from Monday, February 9, 2026.
This development is reportedly a direct order from Nnamdi Kanu, who expressed his desire to see children return to their classrooms on Mondays and for residents to resume their daily businesses without the shadow of fear or intimidation hanging over them. Powerful emphasized that this decision was made to protect the livelihoods and the future of the people, ensuring that economic and educational activities are no longer paralyzed by the weekly restriction.
The group also issued a stern warning to anyone who might try to enforce the now-defunct order against the wishes of the leadership. Anyone attempting to compel people to stay indoors will be viewed as an enemy of the people and will be dealt with accordingly. The message was clear: those who continue to push for the sit-at-home are no longer acting in the interest of the cause and will be confronted to ensure the safety of the public.
Interestingly, this announcement follows a similar declaration from the Simon Ekpa-led faction. In a video recently circulating on social media, a figure known as Angel De Makeup, appearing alongside armed men, stated that they were also stepping back from enforcing the Monday lockdowns in alignment with the new directive. He mentioned that from now on, any observance of the day would be entirely voluntary rather than mandatory.
With these dual announcements, there is a collective call for residents across the South East to regain their Mondays. Business owners, workers, and parents are being encouraged to open their shops, head to their offices, and send their children back to school tomorrow with the assurance that the era of enforced shutdowns has finally come to an end.
