The Plateau State Government has appealed to residents to remain calm after ordering an immediate shutdown of schools across the state in response to growing security concerns in parts of the country. The directive, issued by the State Ministry of Education and the Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board, instructed Government Junior Model Secondary Schools to close from Saturday November twenty two, while all primary and day schools are to close from Monday November twenty four.
The order also stated that no academic or administrative activities should continue until further notice, prompting many parents in the Jos and Bukuru areas to rush to schools on Saturday to pick up their children. Officials explained that the move became necessary after reports of student abductions surfaced from other states, noting that it was important to act swiftly to prevent any possible threat.
The government urged residents not to panic, assuring them that the decision was taken strictly as a preventive step to protect students, teachers and school staff. Commissioner for Information and Communication Joyce Ramnap called on parents, school heads and community leaders to follow the directive and refrain from sharing unverified claims that could heighten fear.
She reaffirmed that Governor Caleb Mutfwang and his administration are fully committed to safeguarding lives and keeping the state stable.
