The Lagos State Police Command has arrested social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, after a viral video showed him driving recklessly and crashing his car during a live-stream.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025, sparked widespread public outrage over the influencer’s dangerous actions. The police described Peller’s conduct as a serious threat to public safety, prompting immediate intervention.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the command confirmed that Peller’s actions not only endangered his life but also the lives of other road users. “His action constitutes a deliberate attempt to commit suicide and endangers the lives of other innocent people,” the statement read.
The matter has now been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation. Authorities confirmed that the outcome of the probe will be made public, and Peller will face prosecution in a court of competent jurisdiction in accordance with the law.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, also issued a stern warning to social media influencers and the general public against using online platforms to engage in reckless or unlawful activities. “Such lawlessness will not be tolerated, and the full weight of the law will be applied to any offender,” he emphasized. He further urged all road users to strictly observe traffic regulations to ensure public safety.
The incident has reignited discussions about the increasing trend of risky stunts by content creators seeking online attention. Many Nigerians have called for stricter enforcement of traffic laws to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Authorities continue to stress that anyone whose actions endanger lives, regardless of their social status or online influence, will be held accountable. Road traffic crashes remain a significant public safety concern in Lagos, often linked to speeding, distracted driving, and disregard for traffic rules.
