In a beautiful fusion of melody and message, Latin music’s rising sensation Precious Perez, popularly known as “The Blind Reggaetonera,” has released her latest single titled No Me Hizo Falta Verte. The track is a deeply personal tribute to her husband, Shane Lowe, and marks a significant milestone as she begins a fresh chapter in her artistic journey.
The title, which translates to “I didn’t have to see you,” captures the essence of her relationship with Lowe, who is also blind. Speaking on the inspiration behind the song, Perez shared with Reports that her love story is rooted in a connection that transcends physical appearance, thriving instead on emotional and spiritual depth. The track is a vibrant blend of merengue, reggaeton, and salsa, serving as the lead single for her upcoming EP.
The creation of the song was a collaborative effort with writers from Warner Chappell Latin. During their sessions, they encouraged her to lean into her lived experiences. What began as a conversation about disability pride quickly blossomed into a musical celebration of romance and resilience. Perez hopes the song will resonate with anyone who believes that true connection is felt rather than seen.
Perez’s path to becoming a trailblazer in the Latin music scene has been shaped by both her talent and a strong support system. She credits organizations like Recording Artists and Music Professionals with Disabilities (RAMPD), along with her mentors, including the legendary Ivy Queen and RAMPD founder Lachi. These influences helped her evolve from an aspiring performer into a confident recording artist who is unafraid to push creative boundaries.
Her academic foundation has also been a key ingredient in her success. A graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music, Perez studied Music Education and Vocal Performance. She notes that her formal training in Boston provided the technical skills needed to master the complex rhythms of contemporary Latin music, giving her the self-assurance to stand out in a competitive industry.
Beyond the recording studio, Perez is a fierce advocate for inclusion. While she draws inspiration from pioneers like Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles, she is determined to carve out a unique space specifically for blind Latina performers. Her 2023 hit, Sin Preguntar, was a turning point that led to her voicing a character and co-writing for the animated Dora series on Paramount Plus, further proving that her talent knows no limits.
As she looks toward the rest of 2026, Perez is fully embracing her identity as “La Reggaetonera Ciega.” With a series of new releases on the horizon and eyes set on Latin Grammy recognition, she continues to perform at iconic venues like the Lincoln Center. Through her music and her role as Advisor Emeritus at RAMPD, she remains a powerful voice for representation, ensuring that the next generation of artists with disabilities finds the door wide open.
