The Abuja International Film Festival (AIFF) is set to mark its 22nd anniversary with a grand celebration of global cinema and creative excellence. Scheduled to run from November 6 to 10, 2025, the festival will bring together filmmakers, actors, and enthusiasts from around the world for a week of screenings, panel discussions, and workshops.
This year’s edition has attracted impressive participation, with more than 1,500 film entries from 80 countries. Out of these, 70 outstanding films were selected for screening. Nigerian productions such as Ajaga, Kakanda, and Safari are among the leading contenders, joined by international features including Iriso from Japan and I Just Live from Russia.
In the acting categories, some of Nigeria’s finest talents have earned nominations. Lateef Adedimeji, Daniel Etim Effiong, and Ikechukwu Onunaku are in the running for Outstanding Actor, while Osas Ighodaro, Amina Shehu, and Uche Montana have been nominated for Outstanding Actress. These categories promise to highlight the growing influence of Nollywood on the global film stage.
Festival Director Temitope Duker announced that this year’s event will also honour several distinguished personalities with Special Recognition Awards for their contributions to Nigeria’s creative sector. Among the honorees are Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu, Alhaji Abah Mohammed of Kano, and Dr. Supo Olusi, Managing Director and CEO of the Bank of Industry.
Reflecting on the festival’s journey, founder Fidelis Duker noted that the Abuja International Film Festival has grown into one of Africa’s leading film events, serving as a vital platform that connects filmmakers, audiences, and investors. He emphasized that the festival continues to promote Nigerian cinema while strengthening its place in the global film industry.
Reports says that as the festival approaches, excitement is building across the entertainment landscape, with many anticipating another remarkable edition that will celebrate both homegrown talent and international collaboration in the world of film.
