At least 11 security personnel, including a Nigerian Army commanding officer, were killed when Boko Haram fighters ambushed troops of the 21 Brigade, Operation Hadin Kai, along Kashimri village in Bama Local Government Area, Borno State, on Friday evening.

An intelligence source revealed that the attack occurred as the soldiers were en route to carry out a clearance operation. “Our troops were ambushed by Boko Haram terrorists while heading for a clearance mission in Bama,” the source said.

The commanding officer leading the team was killed along with six soldiers, two members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, and two local vigilantes. The source added that the insurgents also suffered significant casualties during the firefight.
