The Federal Government says President Bola Tinubu is implementing broad and strategic measures to end terrorism in Nigeria, combining military strength with social reforms and regional cooperation.
Speaking during a news conference in Abuja, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, explained that the current administration inherited a long-standing security challenge but has made significant progress through decisive actions. He noted that the government’s approach goes beyond military intervention, focusing on overhauling the nation’s security structure and improving coordination among agencies.
Alake pointed out that the recent changes in the leadership of the security agencies, following similar adjustments in 2023, were deliberate moves to inject fresh energy and renewed commitment into the fight against insecurity. According to him, these steps stem from thorough planning and careful strategizing, and the results are already becoming evident across various fronts.
He emphasized that the current administration’s efforts have greatly improved the security situation compared to what was obtainable a decade ago, describing the progress as a testament to the government’s resolve and long-term vision for peace.
Addressing misconceptions about the motives behind terrorist attacks, Alake cautioned against interpreting them through religious lenses. He stressed that most of these assaults are driven by economic or political motives, not religion, and that portraying them otherwise only distorts the truth.
He also urged the media to avoid spreading narratives that misrepresent the nation’s security realities, calling instead for balanced reporting that highlights the sacrifices and achievements of Nigeria’s armed forces in the ongoing fight against terrorism.
