Governor Dauda Lawal has given the green light for the construction of a new secretariat for the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Gusau, a move the Zamfara State Council of the union says will enhance journalists’ working environment and bolster media professionalism across the state.
In a joint statement, NUJ Chairman Comrade Ibrahim Musa Maizare and Secretary Ibrahim Ahmad Gada expressed their excitement, announcing that Governor Lawal has approved the development of a modern and fully equipped secretariat for journalists in Zamfara.
The union highlighted that this project fulfills a promise the governor made before taking office, committing to provide a befitting facility for working journalists. According to the statement, all preparations for the commencement of construction have been finalized.
The council also commended Governor Lawal for awarding the contract to respected indigenous contractor and elder statesman Alhaji Garba Almajir. Speaking at the project site, Almajir assured that the new secretariat would be a state-of-the-art structure meeting the highest standards, aligning with the governor’s vision of making it one of the best facilities for journalists in Africa.
The NUJ emphasized that this development marks a historic milestone for the media in Zamfara. Beyond improving the physical workspace for journalists, the council noted, the project will strengthen media professionalism and reinforce press freedom across the state. The entire NUJ family expressed deep gratitude to Governor Lawal for this commendable and forward-looking initiative.
