A youth stakeholder and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Sanusi Sa’adu, has stirred political debate after openly opposing the reported defection of Governor Dauda Lawal to the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a video that circulated widely online, Sa’adu warned that the governor’s possible move from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC would create internal tension and could weaken the party’s chances in future elections. The remarks later drew further attention, prompting a follow up interview to clarify his position.
Speaking during the interview conducted in Hausa, Sa’adu said his message was directed at President Bola Tinubu and the national leadership of the APC, urging them to carefully consider the political implications of accepting the governor into the party.
He argued that the governor’s administration had not met the expectations of many residents in Zamfara, adding that dissatisfaction among party members could translate into political backlash if the situation is not handled carefully.
According to him, he and several supporters within the APC structure may reconsider their loyalty if Governor Lawal is allowed into the party without addressing existing grievances. He also claimed that some supporters were already preparing to resist what they described as an unfavourable political arrangement ahead of 2027.
Sa’adu went further to allege that the governor had not adequately rewarded individuals who worked for his victory in the 2023 governorship election, saying many loyal supporters felt sidelined after the election was won.
He also criticised the handling of party affairs, particularly the selection process for candidates, claiming that some of those given tickets for future elections were not widely accepted within the party structure.
Despite his criticism, he acknowledged that the governor had embarked on certain development projects, but insisted that gaps remain in areas such as human development and political inclusion.
He stated that these grievances had informed the formation of a new political association he described as Anti party Activities of Nigeria, which he said would focus on educating voters and guiding them on candidate choices regardless of party affiliation.
Sa’adu maintained that the growing dissatisfaction within APC ranks in Zamfara could affect the party’s performance in 2027, adding that a large section of supporters were unhappy with recent political developments.
He also addressed the viral attention his interview received, particularly criticisms about his English expression. He explained that he did not have the opportunity to acquire formal Western education during his early years but expressed willingness to return to school if given the chance.
He said his current focus is on providing for his family, but noted that he would gladly pursue education if support or a scholarship becomes available, even if it requires studying outside the country.
Reflecting on the experience, he admitted that his lack of education has limited him in several ways and encouraged parents and guardians in the North, particularly in Zamfara State, to prioritise the education of their children to secure a better future, Zoyols News reports.
