The Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos was recently filled with glamour as influential figures gathered for the prestigious Personality of the Year Awards. The event, which honors exceptional Nigerians for their roles in national growth and social impact, featured a heavy presence of leaders from the political, business, and entertainment sectors.
A major highlight of the night was the appearance of legendary music icon 2Baba. The singer took full control of the stage, instantly shifting the energy of the room with his signature smooth delivery. Performing a medley of his timeless hits, he turned the formal gathering into a lively celebration, with the audience of dignitaries joining in for a spirited sing-along.
This year’s top honors were presented to Alhaji Sayyu Idris Dantata, the founder of MRS Holdings, and the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. Their recognition stems from their notable contributions to the energy sector and public service reform. Several state governors were also spotlighted for their leadership, including Uba Sani of Kaduna, Nasir Idris of Kebbi, and Mai Mala Buni of Yobe. Others recognized included governors from Cross River, Taraba, and Zamfara.
The ceremony also celebrated the achievements of individuals across different generations. Dr. Osahon Okunbo was named the Young Entrepreneur of the Year, while the Public Sector Icon award went to Festus Keyamo. Lifetime Achievement honors were bestowed upon distinguished figures such as Jim Ovia, Matthew Kukah, and Bruce Onobrakpeya, alongside Vincent Maduka and Jim Nwobodo.
