Nigerian music legend 2Baba has broken his silence following widespread claims that he was arrested in the United Kingdom after a heated exchange with his wife, Natasha Osawaru Idibia.
The singer and his wife had traveled to the UK for his much-anticipated tour, which was set to begin immediately upon his arrival. However, his first scheduled performance failed to hold, sparking online reports that he was taken into custody after a domestic altercation that allegedly turned physical, with bottles said to have been thrown.
In a video message shared on his Instagram page, 2Baba dismissed the arrest rumors as false. He explained that he missed the show due to an urgent medical emergency, not because of any run-in with the law. The singer expressed gratitude to his fans and organisers for their patience and understanding, assuring them of a remarkable performance at the next opportunity. He also urged the public to refrain from spreading misinformation, saying, “To everyone who came out, I appreciate you. We had a medical emergency, and it was tough. To the organisers and everyone who came out, we will make something beautiful. Please, if una no sabi something, make una no talk.”
This is not the first time 2Baba has found himself at the center of public scrutiny. In July, while speaking on a podcast, he stirred controversy after suggesting that men are not naturally wired to remain sexually committed to one woman. His statement drew heavy backlash, with many accusing him of being insensitive to his wife and family.
Shortly after, the music star made a heartfelt reversal. In another Instagram video, he admitted his fault, apologising to his wife Natasha, whom he described as the love of his life, as well as to his children and fans. He confessed, “I messed up. I’m deeply sorry, that’s not who I am.”
The incident prompted reactions from colleagues in the entertainment industry. Media personality Do2dtun voiced concern, noting that 2Baba is not known to address such matters publicly and suggesting that the singer may be under pressure from those exploiting his vulnerability.
Comedian Ayo Makun also weighed in, observing how quick society is to condemn without pausing to ask whether the man at the center of it all is truly okay. He stressed that men are often conditioned to endure silently, whether they are right or wrong.
Singer Cynthia Morgan, on her part, directed her words to Natasha, cautioning that 2Baba cannot be forced into monogamy overnight. She advised prayers for the singer, while questioning whether he is genuinely committed to his faith.
Adding his voice, broadcaster Daddy Freeze compared the singer’s trajectory to a decline, saying 2Baba was shifting “from a Bentley to a Corolla.” He contrasted this with the growth of Annie Idibia, his former wife, who he described as evolving into a queen, while warning that the artist risks becoming a shadow of himself if he continues on this path.
