Senator Ali Ndume, the lawmaker representing Borno South, has made a bold claim regarding the country’s security challenges, stating that the federal government could bring an end to the crisis within just six months if it truly prioritizes the issue. Speaking on a national television program on Monday, the senator expressed deep frustration over the recent wave of violence that has once again put the North-East on edge.
According to Ndume, the solution to the long-standing insecurity is not found in constant complaints but in clear, decisive action. He argued that the keys to victory lie in a mix of intensive military training, superior equipment, and proper motivation for the troops on the ground. In his view, the government must move beyond rhetoric and provide the army with the modern tools required to reclaim the territory.
The senator’s remarks come at a particularly somber time for the Nigerian military. Reports highlight a worrying trend of high-ranking casualties, including the recent loss of Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, who was killed during a daring midnight raid on a brigade headquarters in Benisheikh. The tragedy was compounded on Monday with the reported deaths of a colonel and six soldiers in a separate ambush. Ndume noted that such losses are a direct reflection of declining morale and a lack of adequate operational resources for the men in uniform.
A major point of concern for the lawmaker is Nigeria’s slow adoption of modern technology in warfare. He pointed to countries like Burkina Faso as examples of how technology can change the tide of a conflict. Ndume specifically called for a massive increase in the deployment of drones and high-tech surveillance cameras. He believes that if the military assets in Borno and other troubled regions were bolstered with technology-driven solutions, the movements of insurgents could be tracked and neutralized with far greater efficiency.
While he was critical of the central strategy, the senator was full of praise for the local leadership in his home state. He credited Governor Babagana Zulum for his tireless efforts in supporting the military and stabilizing various parts of the state. Ndume suggested that without the governor’s constant interventions and commitment to complementing the federal forces, the situation in Borno would have deteriorated far beyond its current state.
Ultimately, his message was a call for sincerity. He emphasized that Nigeria possesses capable hands and brilliant young specialists ready to design and deploy security tech, but they are held back by a lack of ammunition and the right equipment. For the senator, the path forward is simple: the authorities must finally match their words with the necessary investments to protect the lives of both soldiers and civilians.
