Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has paid glowing tribute to the late former governor of the state, Chief Cornelius Adebayo, describing him as a rare leader, a unifier, and a man who served Nigeria with humility, courage, and conviction.

Speaking at the wake service held in Ilorin, Governor AbdulRazaq said Chief Adebayo’s name would remain etched in history for his unwavering commitment to justice, democracy, and good governance. He described the late statesman as a man who stood firm for what was right, even in difficult times.

“Today, I join our people in mourning a true patriot and leader, His Excellency Cornelius Adebayo, CON,” the governor said. “He was a bridge builder and a guiding light whose moral courage and humility inspired many. Whether as a governor, minister, NADECO chieftain, or Afenifere leader, he consistently acted with integrity and served with a deep sense of responsibility.”

Represented by his deputy, Elder Kayode Alabi, the governor noted that Chief Adebayo’s life exemplified service to God and humanity, urging everyone to reflect on the legacy he left behind. “His passing reminds us that life is transient. What truly matters is the legacy of faith, character, and service we leave behind,” he added.

Friends, family, and associates also took turns to share memories of the late elder statesman, describing him as a man of compassion, faith, and purpose. His daughter, Bimbo Adewoye, recalled his devotion to God and family, noting that he lived a life centered on love and unity. “My father dedicated his life to God, his family, and humanity. He believed wherever he found himself, it was by God’s design. He promoted peace and togetherness among his children,” she said.

The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including the Kwara First Lady, Ambassador Prof. Olufolake AbdulRazaq; Senator Umar Sadiq; House of Representatives member Raheem Tunji Ajulọ-opin; Chief Judge of Kwara State, Justice Abiodun Adebara; former Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola; former Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed; and NACCIMA President, Alhaji Jani Ibrahim.

Also present were top government officials, royal fathers, and political leaders, all united in celebrating the life of a man whose legacy continues to inspire generations in Kwara and beyond.
