Former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed reports suggesting that he is planning to leave the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that he remains firmly committed to the ruling party.
The clarification was contained in a statement released on Wednesday through his media aide, Femi Awogboro, and made available in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Speculation had circulated across online platforms claiming that the former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria had concluded arrangements to dump the APC for the Social Democratic Party. The reports quickly gained attention, fueling political discussions about his future ahead of the next election cycle.
Reacting to the claims, Adelabu described the reports as completely false and without any basis. He said the rumours were deliberately crafted to create confusion and mislead members of the public regarding his political position.
He reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC, stressing that his commitment to the party remains unwavering. According to him, no amount of misinformation or fabricated narratives can influence his political decisions or weaken his ties with the party.
The statement further urged those promoting the speculation to acknowledge that there is no truth whatsoever in the defection claims. It maintained that Adelabu has neither considered nor initiated any move to join another political platform.
It also condemned the attempt to link him with an imaginary defection plan, describing it as an irresponsible effort aimed at generating unnecessary attention and creating a political storyline that does not exist.
Adelabu reiterated that he remains a dedicated member of the APC and urged the public to disregard the reports, insisting that they were nothing more than unfounded rumours lacking any factual foundation.
