All 48 teams set for World Cup battles in North America

Zoyols News

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to be the biggest edition in history, with 48 nations heading to North America for a tournament that promises new storylines, fresh rivalries and the usual debate over whether experience or surprise will define the outcome. With the expanded format, more teams than ever arrive with genuine belief that they can make history.

At the very top of the contenders, Spain lead the conversation as European champions, blending youthful brilliance with experienced leadership in a squad built for control and composure. Close behind are France, still powered by elite attacking depth, while Brazil enter under Carlo Ancelotti hoping to end a long wait for glory with a traditional balance of flair and structure. Argentina, the reigning world champions, remain dangerous under Lionel Scaloni, even as Lionel Messi edges toward the twilight of his international career.

Germany continue their rebuild under Julian Nagelsmann, aiming to erase recent tournament disappointments. Portugal arrive with a golden generation led by Cristiano Ronaldo, while England under Thomas Tuchel carry both expectation and uncertainty as they search for consistency at the highest level.

The Netherlands remain disciplined and efficient, though questions linger about their cutting edge in attack. Colombia bring momentum after strong qualifying wins against top opposition, with Luis Díaz expected to carry much of their attacking threat. Uruguay, now guided by Marcelo Bielsa, combine intensity and work rate, although finishing remains a concern.

Norway stand out as one of the most exciting attacking sides, with Martin Ødegaard and Erling Haaland forming a dangerous partnership. Croatia, despite the passage of time, still rely heavily on Luka Modrić’s influence. Belgium’s so called golden generation has faded, yet Kevin De Bruyne remains a creative force capable of deciding matches.

Africa presents several strong challengers. Senegal enter with confidence after continental success and a squad built on European based talent. Egypt rely heavily on Mohamed Salah, while Morocco aim to build on their remarkable semi final run from the last tournament. Ivory Coast arrive unbeaten in qualifying and full of belief.

Japan continue to grow as a disciplined and technical side, Switzerland offer structure and control, and Ecuador impress with defensive organisation. Mexico, as co hosts, will carry strong home support but also heavy expectations, with young talent expected to step up.

The United States join their North American partners Canada and Mexico in hosting duties, with Mauricio Pochettino tasked with turning potential into results. Canada will look to Alphonso Davies for inspiration. Australia return with growing confidence, while Scotland reappear on the World Cup stage after nearly three decades away.

Further down the list, Algeria lean on Riyad Mahrez’s experience, Ghana turn to Carlos Queiroz for stability, and South Africa return to the tournament for the first time since hosting in 2010. Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iran, New Zealand and Saudi Arabia all bring different strengths but face tough paths in competitive groups.

Debutants and surprise qualifiers add even more intrigue. Uzbekistan arrive with attacking ambition, DR Congo bring resilience, and Jordan prepare for a defensive approach in their first appearance. Iraq, Cape Verde, Haiti and Curaçao complete the field, each carrying their own story of qualification against the odds.

With established giants and fearless newcomers all heading into the same arena, the 2026 World Cup promises unpredictability from the opening whistle to the final stages.
