Popular health influencer Aproko Doctor has addressed a widespread misconception linking abortions to fibroid development in women. Responding to concerns shared on X, he clarified that abortion does not increase the risk of fibroids.
The discussion arose after several users highlighted cases of young women developing fibroids. One user shared meeting a 25-year-old recently diagnosed with fibroids at just 23, while another questioned how women under 30 could develop the condition. Some had even suggested, based on claims from self-styled pastors, that fibroids only appear in women who had abortions.
Aproko Doctor firmly dismissed these myths, explaining that fibroids are primarily influenced by genetics, hormonal factors, and race. He emphasized that Black women are particularly at higher risk of developing fibroids, underscoring that lifestyle choices or abortion history are not causal factors.
By debunking these myths, Aproko Doctor encourages women to focus on evidence-based health information and seek proper medical guidance rather than relying on rumors.
