The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced that players invited for the 2026 World Cup African playoff will converge in Morocco on November 9, five days before their opening match against Gabon.
The Super Eagles’ playoff campaign kicks off on November 13, with the winner set to face the victor of the second semifinal between Cameroon and Congo DR in the final on November 16. CAF is expected to confirm the stadiums for both games, which will determine Africa’s representative in the inter-confederation playoff next March.
A source within the NFF revealed that the final squad list for the playoff will be released later this month. All selected players are expected in Rabat by November 9 to acclimatize and work on strategies under Coach Eric Chelle, whose detailed program for the matches has already been submitted to the federation. Official invitation letters will be dispatched to the players soon.
Speaking over the weekend, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau expressed confidence in Nigeria’s chances in Morocco. He revealed that preparations are already underway and emphasized that the team is fully aware of its opponents and the venues.
“The level of commitment and zeal of the players toward qualifying for the World Cup is tremendous,” Gusau said, noting that the players understand the significance of the tournament for their careers. He also confirmed that the NFF is receiving full backing from the Federal Government and relevant authorities to ensure the Eagles are well-prepared for the playoff clash against Gabon.
