Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to an inclusive security strategy aimed at tackling banditry and other emerging threats across the country.

Speaking at the Lagos Police Command in Ikeja during the foundation-laying ceremony for a new multi-layered conference centre, Egbetokun stressed that national security cannot be achieved in isolation. He explained that the police are now adopting an “all-of-society” approach that prioritizes collaboration with other security agencies, community leaders and citizens.

“What we are doing presently is to embrace all communities and employ an all-community approach to solving security challenges. Security cannot be provided in silos,” he said. “To secure this country, we must come together, believe in ourselves and reject fake news. Falsehoods against security institutions only weaken our collective resolve. Those who risk their lives daily to protect others deserve our support and truth.”

The police chief also assured Nigerians that the Force is fully prepared to maintain peace and order during the forthcoming festive season. According to him, all police commands have been directed to intensify security operations to ensure that Nigerians enjoy a safe and hitch-free celebration.

Egbetokun commended the Lagos State Police Commissioner, Olohundare Jimoh, for initiating the construction of the new conference centre, describing the project as a milestone in the police’s ongoing reforms. “The foundation we are laying today goes beyond physical structures. It symbolizes our vision for progress, excellence and a people-centered police force,” he noted.

He highlighted Lagos as a key pillar in Nigeria’s security framework, noting that policing strategies in the state have long served as a model for other regions. “As we lay these bricks, we are also laying hope, professionalism and discipline  the true foundations of efficient policing in Nigeria,” he added.

Egbetokun’s remarks reflect the Force’s renewed determination to strengthen collaboration, enhance professionalism and build lasting trust between security agencies and the communities they serve.
