FilmOne Entertainment has expressed excitement over the remarkable box office success of Funke Akindele’s film, Behind The Scenes, following its historic run in cinemas across Nigeria and select international markets.
Zoyols Blog reports that the movie has so far earned over N2.5 billion at the box office, a milestone that places it firmly at the top as the highest-grossing Nigerian film in West Africa. The achievement not only marks a new commercial peak for Nollywood but also raises expectations for what locally produced films can accomplish theatrically.
The record-breaking figure sees Behind The Scenes overtake Akindele’s earlier blockbuster, Everybody Loves Jenifa, which wrapped up its cinema run in 2024 with just under N1.9 billion. The latest success significantly widens the revenue ceiling for Nigerian films and signals a growing appetite for homegrown stories on a large scale.
Beyond Nigeria, the film has also made a strong impression internationally. Screenings in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada have pulled in about $440,000, making it the most successful Nollywood release ever in the international market.
Reacting to the feat, Filmhouse Group Chief Executive Officer, Kene Okwuosa, described the performance of Behind The Scenes as a turning point for FilmOne Entertainment and the wider Nollywood industry. He noted that the results show what can be achieved when bold storytelling is paired with a well-structured and globally focused distribution strategy, adding that African stories can compete confidently on the world stage when given the right platform.
Okwuosa also pointed out that the film represents the first time FilmOne Entertainment handled distribution across Nigeria and major international territories under a single, unified plan. Unlike previous releases that focused mainly on the domestic market, this approach allowed for better coordination, stronger visibility, and smoother execution across regions.
As the film’s global distributor, FilmOne oversaw a carefully aligned rollout that synchronized release dates, cinema partnerships, and diaspora engagement in Nigeria, the UK, Canada, and North America. According to Okwuosa, this strategy helped sustain momentum abroad and ensured the film remained part of cultural conversations well beyond Nigeria’s borders.
With its record-breaking run still drawing attention, Behind The Scenes is fast becoming a defining example of how far Nollywood cinema can go when ambition, structure, and global thinking come together.
