Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved the expanded State Executive Council after officially resuming office following a six-month suspension imposed by President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, the governor confirmed that the decision takes immediate effect. Those affected include commissioners, special advisers, and other public officers whose appointments were tied to the recent Supreme Court judgment.
The affected officials had previously served in Fubara’s administration before March 18, when emergency rule was declared and they were forced out of office.
Political observers had speculated that the governor might retain some cabinet members who were considered to have performed well. Others, however, suggested that Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and a key figure in Fubara’s reinstatement, could play a major role in shaping the new cabinet.
Speaking during a valedictory session in Port Harcourt, the governor expressed appreciation to members of the outgoing cabinet for their service and contributions to the state’s progress over the past two years.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s Independence Day, Fubara urged citizens to join hands with President Tinubu in building a peaceful, secure, and prosperous nation. He assured Rivers people of his renewed commitment to serve with dedication and thanked them for their continued support.
“The governor has relieved all commissioners and other public officers affected by the recent Supreme Court judgment of their appointments with immediate effect,” Chukwudi said.
It will be recalled that Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), who served as sole administrator of the state during Fubara’s suspension, had earlier dissolved boards, dismissed commissioners, and suspended heads of parastatals across the state.
The governor is now expected to form a new cabinet in the coming days, a move that will likely shape the next phase of his administration.
